Oscillations 2020, Miguel Chevalier
Music: Michel Redolfi
Generative and interactive virtual-reality installation
Software: Cyrille Henry

Oscillations is a new generative virtual-reality installation that allows an interactive 3D graphic visualization of the music by Michel Redolfi.

Thanks to generative software, a waveform pattern is produced in real time according to the frequencies and amplitudes of the music. These spectrums of the different sounds generate imaginary landscapes to infinity. These landscapes, which pass before our eyes, present an infinite number of variations: solid or wireframe, steep or flat, in black and white or in colour.

Image and music respond to each other in a fusion of an emotional nature that participates in a true synesthesia.

Complex Meshes 2020, Miguel Chevalier
Generative and interactive virtual-reality installation
Software: Cyrille Henry / Antoine Villeret

Complex Meshes is a projection that plunges visitors into a universe of networks. A mesh is a three-dimensional object consisting of vertices, edges and faces which form polygons, used in 3D modeling or architecture. For this piece, the use of numerous wireframe meshes becomes an aesthetic into itself. Different colored weaving patterns composed of polygons overlap, evolve, and transform slowly in real time. This huge virtual light curtain twists, moves, and resizes to create diverse and complex shapes. This work is interactive: when the viewer moves in the space, the networks are disrupted.

Within this vital flow, everything floats about, branches out, always turning into something else through the interweaving of multiple lines of colored light, layered networks, and varied pathways. Elements are attracted and repelled by one another, creating a breathing-like rhythm of dilation and contraction.

Miguel Chevalier approaches notions of flux within networks, which are inherently difficult to perceive, yet appear here with real substance. Light, movement and energy represent some of the new poetics of matter which emerge from the continuation of kinetic art.

This dynamic work poetically reflects the transformation of data and information being exchanged in real time in our world today, which weaves throughout our environment and circulates continuously at an ever-increasing speed.
